Environmental and recycling administrations

The efforts made so far by the Municipality of Vratsa on the construction of infrastructure and the introduced separate collection systems are not completely sufficient and it is necessary to additionally provide opportunities for citizens, retail outlets, office buildings for high-quality separate collection of recyclable waste generated by them, beyond those covered by separate packaging waste collection systems and other mass-produced waste. The demonstration project will be implemented on the territory of Vratsa, where the concentration of offices, shopping centers and administrative buildings is predominated. It is planned to be separated 10 sites, the terrains are owned by the municipality, and each of these sites will be equipped with a set of 3 underground containers with a volume of 1.5 m3. The following activities are envisaged: Project preparation; Execution of a demonstration project; Campaigns to promote the results of the project; the organization and manage the project; and Information and communication. The target group is the population, both living in the territory of Vratsa municipality and those from the other 5 regional cities. The expected positive effects in the implementation of the demonstration project are: • Assisting the Municipality of Vratsa in deciding on the extension of the system of separate collection of municipal waste, beyond the obligations of the recovery organizations; • Increase the quantities of recyclable fractions of paper and cardboard, plastics and metals collected, and glass at the source of formation. Increase in quantities of biodegradable waste diverted from landfills by about 5% of the amount of paper and cardboard generated, which is about 80 t / y. • Ensuring quality and clean fractions for subsequent recycling; • Purity and no odor around the sites where the containers are located. • Easily accessible separate collection system for citizens near the source of waste generation.
