Gorna Oryahovitsa Municipality works for a "zero waste" society

The overall objectives of the demonstration project of Gorna Oryahovitsa Municipality are to contribute to waste management through the highest levels in the waste hierarchy and to raise awareness for the implementation of individual-level measures to prevent waste generation and separate collection of specific waste streams. The project envisages the introduction of good waste management practices in the municipality of Gorna Oryahovitsa in the following three areas: 1. Activities to increase the quantities of separately collected municipal waste of paper (in addition to the wastes from paper and cardboard packaging) The measure includes running paper waste collection campaigns in schools throughout the municipality. 2. Measures to prevent the generation of waste from single-use plastic products The measures include the replacement of plastic water bottles with reusable bottles during the annual track and field tour of the town of Gorna Oryahovitsa; preparation of a Plan for the gradual replacement of disposable tableware and cutlery used in the municipal administrative units; conducting round tables with the businesses in the municipality on the prevention of disposable plastic waste. 3. Preparation activities for the reuse of textile garbage waste The measures include an awareness campaign among the population, placement of four specialized containers for textile waste at communication sites in the town of Gorna Oryahovitsa and the conclusion of an agreement with a company for the preparation for reuse of textile waste. Within the project, a campaign will be conducted to disseminate the results of the demonstration project to other municipalities in the country. The municipality will use various forms for this purpose - a website, publications in specialized publications for the target group and more.
