The project aims to prevent the generation of paper waste by limiting the receipt of junk mail from Bulgarian households. Hundreds of thousands of advertising brochures and leaflets are poured daily into the mailboxes of Bulgarian citizens. Most of them go directly to the garbage cans where they are mixed with other types of waste and it becomes very difficult to separate and recycle them. Unwanted promotional materials are of no benefit to either the recipients or the merchants who distribute them. In fact, they are a waste of money and a valuable natural resource. The project envisages a series of activities aimed at the preparation and implementation of the demonstration project, adapted to the specific characteristics of the places where it will be implemented and to promote the results of this project. Ongoing, throughout the project period, activities will be implemented on Project Organization and Management, as well as on Information and Communication, in order to meet the specific requirements of Operational Program 2014-2020 and the applicable national and European requirements for effective, efficient and economical use of the European Regional Development Fund funds provided through OPE 2014-2020. The project will be implemented in six major district cities, which are the centers of the current NUTS II level planning regions - Sofia, Plovdiv, Burgas, Varna, Ruse and Pleven. The locations have been thus selected in order to guarantee the applicability of the results from the demonstration project at national level, on one hand, and on the other, they have the highest number of multifamily residential buildings, which are the main recipients of unwanted mail, and the highest number of major retail chains with a share in the distribution of unwanted mail. The activities foreseen in the project are aimed at prevention of the generation of household waste from paper.
