The project will contribute for increasing the capacity of Gabrovo Municipality and its residents for having better results in waste management by implementing a combination of several successful models based on good practices and covering different target audiences and levels of the hierarchy in waste management. The project will include activities for reducing the volume of landfilled waste and also activities for increasing the amount of recycled waste. For the first time in Gabrovo will be built a platform with underground facilities for collection the household waste. That platform will be used by the households of four residential buildings situated in the central of the city. Each household will have individual access to the platform. The main aim is to raise awareness and liability for the separate collection of wastes, prevention of mixing of the fractions and to achieve better quality recycle process. Waste collection facilities will be equipped with sensors which will transmit real-time data to embedded GIS system of the municipality, which will provide processing, analysis and visualization. The terminal units will be powered by solar panels. The project activities envisaged to separate 4 areas with shared composters, which will be used by one neighborhood, one school, one kindergarten and recreational center. To all households involved in the project will be given individual waste bins for ensuring that the fractions are not mixed. On the platform will be installed a vending system with wide public access for increasing the share of high-quality waste recycling. To raise public awareness and promote the results of the project will be conducted some information campaigns: organizing and hosting events, the campaigns for presenting the project results will include organizing a seminar, staging theater and flash mobs, producing a video clip, a family game and guidance materials as well.
