Enhancing the waste prevention and community composting at the territory of Municipality of Kardjali.

The main objective of the demonstration project is to prevent the generation of biodegradable waste at source by introducing a sustainable model for composting in the community. The specific objectives that will contribute to the overall objective of the project are the following: 1) Promoting the reduction of waste generated at source by introducing new methods of composting in the community; 2) Activation of children and students in the municipality by engaging in composting activities and demonstration activities on waste prevention; 3) Increasing the sensitivity of the residents of Kardjali Municipality to environmental and responsible behavior by conducting targeted waste information campaigns. The objectives of the demonstration project are formulated in pursuance of the objective of the Procedure for the Implementation of Demonstration Projects in the Field of Waste Management, aiming to contribute to the sustainable reduction of the landfilled waste in the Municipality of Kardjali. The project is aimed at fulfilling the objectives set out in Art. 31, Art. 1 of the Waste Management Act and specifically the “prevention of formation”, implementing measures to prevent their generation in the community (kindergartens, schools, green areas and parks). Main activities of the demonstration project include: Activity 1. Preparation of the project. Activity 2. Implementation of a demonstration project. Activity 3. Campaigns to promote the results of the project. Activity 4. Project organization and management. Activity 5. Information and communication. The target groups of the project will include 1100 children aged 5-6 years (22 kindergartens), 2560 elementary school students from grades 1-4 (20 schools) and 60 teachers from kindergartens/schools in the municipality of Kardjali. The main result of the demonstration project will be the prevention of landfilled waste and an increase in the share of separately collected waste in the Municipality of Kardjali.
