"Prevention of polyethylene waste into the environment"

Energy House BG LLC, in partnership with the School of Business Competence LLC, intends to implement a demonstration project to prevent the generation of polyethylene waste into the environment in settlements in the Republic of Bulgaria - Sofia, Plovdiv, Pazardjik, Haskovo, Burgas, Yambol, Shumen, Montana and Pernik. Once the good practice is successfully implemented, the activities will be replicated at national level to facilitate access for stakeholders wishing to continue or start using the successful approach of the good practice. Household demand for pellet fuel generates a huge amount of so-called "widespread waste." Polyethylene bags are non-degradable household waste that is generated after use from numerous sources throughout the country and because of its non-degradable chemical elements, requires the precautionary measures before the product becomes waste. Between 4.2 and 4.5 kg of polyethylene is required to pack a ton of pellets. In Sofia district alone, between 420 and 450 tonnes of domestic waste is generated specifically from the packaging of the pellets themselves. This demonstration project uses a successfully implemented project in France to install vending machines for the bulk supply of pellets to households. Implemented by JMA Distribution, the company won a gold medal in 2015 at the Bois Energie d'Or exhibition - one of the largest exhibitions on alternative energy and environmental protection. Good practice will be implemented and the demonstration project will be implemented on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria through the implementation of the following main activities: the purchase of 10 pcs. bulk pelletizing machines and campaigns to promote project results. Based on preliminary analyzes, the amount of household waste that will be prevented as a result of the project implementation will be at least 6 tonnes per year.
