"Closure and reclamation of the old municipal solid waste landfill in Stara Zagora"

The municipal landfill of Stara Zagora is located in the vicinity of Mandra Bair, villages of Hristianovo and Bogomilovo. Old landfill was set in operation 1973. A Decision 12 from 09.11.2016 of the Regional Inspectorate for Environment - Stara Zagora was issued for closure of operation. The volume waste is 1537000m3. The waste was disposed at 40m. height. Landfill is reached by 2 km asphalt road. The area of landfill closure is determined at 12,2ha municipal property. Document No18815, property No4738.109.1 - 23682 m2, Doc. There is detail design prepared, Construction permit No19-572 dated 24.11.2016. The construction is second category. Implementation comprises works: 1)Cleaning terrain; 2) Construction the landfill body – reallocation, compaction, re-shaping existing waste 1:3 and 1,25 for stability of the landfill body, supporting dyke and laying of sealing layer 20cm earth on slopes, berms and ridges; 3) performing technical reclamation - mineral sealing layer clay 50cm, earth mass 70cm compacted,humus layer – 30cm; 4) drainage activities - concrete security ditches, berm drainage ditches, area drainage, concrete chutes, concrete pipe drainage, energy extinguishing shaft; 5) construction of drainage system for leachate – installation of readymade reservoir; 6) construction of monitoring wells, leveling benchmarks. 7) construction of a system for collection and treatment of biogas – 9 gas wells, each having a static installation for landfill gas burning;
