Reclamation of a municipal landfill for municipal solid waste in the territory of Dabravite village, Belovo municipality

The main purpose of the current project is the closure of a household waste landfill in Belovo Municipality in alignment with achieving a high level of environmental protection, following EU directives and national legislation in the field of waste management. The project aims to eliminate environmental and public health hazards stemming from the movement and distribution of waste within the territory of the landfill and beyond, prevent the unregulated waste disposal, stimulate the improvement, preservation and restoration of the natural environment, as well as ecological infrastructure development. The household waste landfill closure will also contribute to the improvement of the condition of soil and groundwater. The current project is intended to achieve technical recultivation of the landfill in Belovo Municipality and biological recultivation afterwards. The area assigned for recultivation suffers from damaged structure and soil fertility as a result of the long-standing accumulation of waste. The recultivation of the landfill aims to limit the destructive effects of accumulated waste over the environment as much as possible.
