Recultivation of a non-hazardous waste landfill in the town of Pernik.

Project Recultivation of a non-hazardous waste landfill in the town of Pernik. is submitted under procedure BG16M1OP002-2.010 "Recultivation of landfills for closure subject to an infringement procedure of EU law in case B-145/14" under priority axis 1 of OP "Environment 2014 -2020" and includes admissible measures and procedures under the procedure. The expected result of reclamation is to improve environmental conditions related to the public interest. Reclamation processes aim not only at restoring the functions of disturbed and polluted soils, but also at creating balanced ecological systems that represent socio-economic and aesthetic values for man. The project envisages the re-cultivation of a 195-acre municipal landfill located in Markovi Egretsi locality, the land of Lyulin village, Pernik municipality. The purpose of reclamation is to minimize the adverse effects of the accumulated waste on the environment. It is envisaged to use the "in situ" method which maximally meets the characteristics of the terrain and the requirements of the regulation. The method provides for encapsulation of the waste by surface sealing by placing a mineral sealing layer and / or sealing, thereby preventing the access of surface water to the waste, as well as the direct contact of humans and animals with them. The final design of the landfill surface is in the form of a dome with a suitable slope, which allows the safe drainage of surface water. This option allows part of the surface water to seep into the waste, assisting the decomposition processes by collecting and discharging the infiltrate with a drainage system designed to remove the infiltrate from the landfill body.
