IMPROVEMENT OF STRUCTURE AND FUNCTIONS OF HABITATS WITH CODES 91 EO* AND 91 FO WITHIN THE TERITORRY OF SREBARNA MANAGED RESERVE

Implementation of the project will execute activities aimed at improvement of nature conservation statuses of forest natural habitats within the territory of Srebarna Managed Reserve that, according to “Mapping and Determining the Nature Conservation Status of Vascular Plants, Mosses and Natural Habitats” Project, have been assessed with unfavorable bad status: -91E0-Alluvial forests with Alnus glutinosa and Fraxinus excelsior; -91F0-Riparian mixed forests of Quercus robur, Ulmus laevis and Ulmus minor, Fraxinus excelsior or Fraxinus angustifolia, along the great rivers. The territory of the reserve is situated within the lands of the villages of Srebarna and Vetren of Silistra Municipality and within the territory of two protected areas according to both Council Directive 92/43/EU on the conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora and Directive 2009/147/EU on the conservation of wild birds-protected areas with codes BG0000241 “Srebarna”. The goal of the project is pursuance of the activities for restoration and sustenance of target habitats within the scope of measure 43 of the “National Prioritised Action Frame for Natura 2000”: - elimination and limitation of proliferation of plants of invasive species by breaking and ringing of stems within forest habitats 91E0* and 91F0; - forestry activities aimed at improvement of favorable nature conservation statuses of target habitats by implementation of actions of “Srebarna” Managed Reserve Management Plan of 2016 (forestation and cultivation of saplings of native tree species and origins under tree crowns in forests in previously created small caldrons, at locations of died out trees, illuminated spaces, etc.); - security measures for protection of natural habitats 91E0* and 91F0 by limitation of access and interruption of possible access routes by placement of steel wire gabions filled with rocks along western border of section 14; - purchase of software, hardware and specialized equipment.
