„Improvement of the conservation status of natural habitats 91F0 and 92A0 in maintained reserves (MR) "Dolna Topchia" and "Balabana".

The project is planned for implementation in MR D.Topchia in the area of the town of Elhovo and the territory of the village of Trankovo,Tundzha municip.,MR Balabana in the area of the town of E-vo and within the boundaries of protected area Tundja River2 code BG0000195.The implementation is in connection with changes in the hydrological regime that have had a negative impact on natural habitats 91F0 Riverside mixed forests along large rivers and 92A0 Riverside galleries of Salix alba and Populus alba in MR D.Topchia and MR B-na. The lack of regular watering due to the corrections made to the PopovskaRiver and the TundzhaRiver,the drainage of their floodplains and the eradication of the rice fields have led to the massive drying of the forest due to insufficient soil moisture.The MR management plans have established invasive species:Boxelder maple,Honey locust,Desert false indigo,Black locust,Bastard indigobush,etc.It is necessary to eliminate them and plant common oak,white elm and white poplar and their subsequent cultivation. To limit the entry of motor vehicles and poaching, it is necessary to place barriers-to the southern part of MR D.Topchia and to the northeastern part of MR B-na at the beginning of the visitors' trails. The following activities have been planned:Complex feasibility studies for watering MR D.Topchia and MR B-na for preparing the most suitable technical solutions;Preparing a technical design for restoring the floodable nature of MR D.Topchia and MR B-na,based on the results of the completed feasibility studies;Implementation of the activities planned in the technical design for restoring the floodable nature of the reserves;Elimination of invasive species,soil preparation,planting and cultivation of forest material of the species common oak,white elm and white poplar in MR D.Topchia and MR B-na;Purchasing and placing barriers at the beginning of the visitors' trails at the southern part of MR D.Topchia and to the northeastern part of MR B-na.
