Improving the conservation status of Natural Habitats 9560* Endemic Forests of Juniperus spp. in a "Izgorialoto gjune" maintained reserve (MR), and suspensioning losses of the habitat area by eliminating the unfavorable effects of erosion, landslide and the anthropogenic impacts, identified in the Management Plan of the MR

The project includes activities for improving the status of natural habitat 9560 Endemic forests of Juniperus spp.in a Izgorialoto gjune maintained reserve/MR/.MR is located in the Central part of the Western Rhodopes-land of Krichim, Krichim municipality,Plovdiv region.MR is included in the boundaries of a protected zone of the NATURA2000 network-BG0001030 Rodopi-West.A part of the second largest locality of Juniperus excelsa in Bulgaria is located in the limits of the MR.The habitat is included in the Red List of Bulgaria in the category critically endangered. It is included in Annex1 of the Law on Biological Diversity and in Annex1 of Directive92/43/EEC as a priority for conservation. Its conservation status in Bulgaria is unfavorable-bad. Within the MR, the habitat 9560 has an area of 0.5 ha according to the latest studies under the Management Plan,2015.One of the main threats to the habitat identified in the PU is erosion. As a result, in the eastern boundary directly bordering the Krichim-Devin road, three large stretches of developed collapsed processes were formed. Large pieces of rock fall away from the MR, which directly reduces the area of habitat 9560 and specimens of the species are destroyed. To eliminate the negative impact of the habitat 9560 threat identified in the MP, the project aims to improve its conservation status and to cease its area losses, by removing the impact of erosion and collapsing processes-construction of drainage ditches, because the water is the main reason for activating landslide processes. To eliminate the negative impact of the fires and the anthropogenic impacts, identified in the MP as a threat, the project envisages conservation activities to protect the forest habitat from fires, stop illegal felling and grazing, unregulated penetration of the habitat.
