"Improving the Water Regime and Management of Succession Processes in Wetlands of International Importance Ropotamo Complex, Poda protected site and Vaya Lake"

The project proposal envisages activities in accordance with the National Plan for the conservation of the Most Important Wetlands in Bulgaria (2013-2022), the Management Plan for the Poda protected site and others strategic and regulatory documents. The main activities of the project are to improve the connection between the Black Sea and Vaya Lake by strengthening the southern bank of the drainage channel. Cleaning of the channels connecting the Aleppo Marsh and the Stamopolu Marsh with the Black Sea. Construction or reconstruction of sluice systems of control of the water level of Aleppo Marsh, Stamopolu Marsh and for facilitating the hydraulic connection between the different water basins. Construction of a water level control system in the Poda protected site through floodgates, savachas and drainage channels. Management of water-vegetation arrays - increasing the area of open water areas by mowing reeds in Aleppo Marsh and Stamopolu Marsh. Extension of individual sections in the Poda protected site to reach basins of different depths and create new types of nature habitats. Purchase of machinery and equipment. In order to achieve the main objectives of the project, the activities need to be based on expert opinions and management guidelines. For the purpose of the project a geodetic survey and a digital model of the relief of the bottom are planned, as well as a hydrological report. Based on these data, the optimal water levels will be predicted for maintaining the favorable conservation status of the habitats and habitats of the species. The total area of the shooting area is approximately 200 ha, including the Arkutino Marsh, the Stamopolu Marsh and the Aleppo Marsh. Management of succession processes by reed mowing requires expert study and preparation of a reed mowing plan
