Implementation of measures from the Action Plan for Protection of the white-eyed pochard (Aythya nyroca) in the Republic of Bulgaria

The project proposal includes activities aimed at improving the conservation status of the white-eyed pochard (Aythya nyroca) based on the Action Plan for protection of the white-eyed pochard (Aythya nyroca) in Bulgaria 2014 - 2023, approved by Order RD-347/12.05.2014 of the minister of environment and water. The activities correspond to Annex No 1 "Species Action Plans and Eligible Measures" to the Guidelines for Application to Procedure No BG16M1OP002-3.016 "Measures to Improve the Conservation Status of Birds" and covers the following conservation activities outlined in the plan: 8.2.1. To implement projects aimed at restoring previous nesting sites of the white-eyed pochard (Aythya nyroca) 8.2.2. To elaborate an Extensive Fish-Breeding Programme that reflects the necessary economic activities in fish-breeding farms, in compliance with the requirements of the white-eyed pochard (Aythya nyroca) to habitats. As a result of the implementation of the measures under the procedure, it is expected to improve the conservation status of the species, subject to protection under NATURA 2000 network. The activities will be implemented on the territory of protected areas: BG0002104 Tsibarsko blato, BG0002028 Complex Straldja, BG0000335 Karaboaz, BG0000334 Ostrov, as well as in Special Protection Areas, where the species is under protection and where there are acting fish farms.
