Implementation of measures from the Action Plan for the Conservation of the Eastern Imperial Eagle (Aquila heliaca) in the Republic of Bulgaria

The project includes activities aimed at improving the conservation status of the Eastern Imperial Eagle (Aquila heliaca) based on the Action Plan for the Conservation of the Eastern Imperial Eagle (Aquila heliaca) in Bulgaria 2014-2022 approved by Order RD-371/17.04.2013 of the minister of environment and water. The activities comply with Annex 1 "Species Action Plans and Eligible Measures" to the application guidelines to Procedure BG16M1OP002-3.016 "Measures to Improve the Conservation Status of Birds - 2" and covers the following measures: 2.2.1. Mounting at least 1 artificial nest in all confirmed nesting areas 2.2.2. Preparing artificial nests to attract this species to suitable habitats 2.3.1. Artificial feeding of eastern imperial eagle pairs with average nesting success lt; 1 young between mid March - end of July 2.3.2. Artificial feeding of eastern imperial eagles during winter 2.6.1. Undertake measures to avoid death of eastern imperial eagles as a result of electrocution and collision with power lines. 2.6.2. Safeguard appropriately the poles posing a death risk to this species from electrocution and collision with power lines, within 5- km range from nests, and in areas with concentrated non-breeding species. 3.4.1. Study of power transmission and distribution network impact on eastern imperial eagles in breeding areas. The project is expected to improve the conservation status of the Eastern Imperial Eagle (Aquila heliaca) protected by NATURA 2000. The activities will be implemented on the territory of Bulgaria, i.e.: - In special protection areas within NATURA 2000 (SPAs): BG0002021 Sakar, BG0002059 Kamenski bair, BG0002058 Sinite kamani-Grebenets, BG0002057 Besaparski ridove, BG0002094 Adata-Tundzha (measures 2.2.1, 2.2.2, 2.3.1, 2.3.2) - In SPAs where the species is subject to protection (measure 3.4.1) - In SPAs where the species is subject to protection, prioritised in the study under measure 3.4.1(measures 2.6.1 and 2.6.2).
