Habitat "Sakar"

The project aims at the improvement of the conservation status of several target species at 4 NATURA 2000 sites BG0001032 Rodopi - Iztochni, BG0000212 Sakar, BG0000578 Reka Maritsa, BG0000217 Zhdreloto na reka Tundzha on the territory of Local Action Group Svilengrad Areal. The target species of the project are Caspian turtle, European fire-bellied toad, Mehely's horseshoe bat, Mediterranean horseshoe bat, Blasius's horseshoe bat, Lesser mouse-eared bat, Common bent-wing bat, Long-fingered bat, Greater mouse-eared bat, Western barbastelle, Bechstein's Myotis. Research, informational and communicational actions are planned for the species which were not registered on the field during the project „Mapping and determination of the conservation status of nature habitats and species – Phase I“, but not conservation actions. Direct conservation actions are planned for Caspian turtle, Lesser mouse-eared bat, Common bent-wing bat, Long-fingered bat, Greater mouse-eared bat, Bechstein's Myotis. Sixteen actions are planned in order to achieve the goal of the project. They refer species parameters with „Unfavourable-Inadequate“ status according to project „Mapping and determination of the conservation status of nature habitats and species – Phase I“. Seven of them are direct conservation actions aiming enhancement of the species habitats (setting up fire-fighting depots and conducting stakeholder training, clearing roads and clearings, provision of artificial modifying old and abandoned buildings and marking biotope trees). Two research actions are planned for bats, amphibians and reptiles and their habitats targeting one of the greater threat – lack of information. This threat hinders the proper assessment of the conservation status of the species and planning suitable management measures. Thus these 2 actions equal conservation type of actions.
