Habitat "Dunav"

The project aims at the improvement of the conservation status of several target species at 2 Natura 2000 sites- BG0000247 Nikopolsko plato and BG0000396 Persina on the territoryof the Local initiative group Belene- Nikopol. The target species of the project are European pond turtle (E. orbicularis), European fire-bellied toad (B. bombina), Southern crested newt (T. karelinii), Mediterranean horseshoe bat (Rh. euryale), Blasius's horseshoe bat (Rh. blasii), Lesser mouse-eared bat (M. blythii), Long-fingered bat (M. capaccinii), Greater mouse-eared bat (M. myotis). Research, informational and communicational actions are planned for the species which were not registered on the field during the project „Mapping and determination of the conservation status of nature habitats and species – Phase I“, but not conservation actions. Direct conservation actions are planned for european pond turtle (E. orbicularis), european fire-bellied toad (B. bombina). Twelve actions are planned in order to achieve the goal of the project. They refer species parameters with „Unfavourable-Inadequate“ status according to project „Mapping and determination of the conservation status of nature habitats and species – Phase I“. Four of them are direct conservation actions aiming enhancement of the species habitats (setting up fire-fighting depots and conducting stakeholder training, clearing roads and clearings, restoring old watering places, shaping small wetlands,). Two research actions are planned for bats, amphibians and reptiles and their habitats targeting one of the greater threat – lack of information. This threat hinders the proper assessment of the conservation status of the species and planning suitable management measures. Thus these 2 actions equal conservation type of actions.
