Preventive activities by building/restoring monitoring systems in registered landslide areas

The territory of the Republic of Bulgaria is characterized by a high level of landslide activity. This is predetermined by intensive tectonic and seismic processes in past geological periods, some of which continue until now. Landslides varied by type of mechanism, activity and range are registered in the country and act in a sequential and destructive manner, lead to disastrous and catastrophic situations, threaten the life and health of the people, the security of settlements, destroy residential, farm, industrial buildings, cultural assets, break roads, railways, water pipelines and other technical infrastructure, destroying agricultural land and forest areas, worsening environmental components. The strategic document outlining the vision in the development of the policy on geo-protection activity is the National Program for Prevention and Reduction of Landslides on the Territory of the Republic of Bulgaria, Erosion and Abrasion on the Danube riverbank and Black Sea Coast 2015-2020. The implementation of preventive activities by building/restoring monitoring systems in registered landslide areas for monitoring of landslide processes will be done by geodetic, inclinometric, stationary hydrogeological and other measurements in order to determine the state of the deformation processes. The purpose of the procedure is monitoring of landslide processes in order to ensure early warning, apprising and other preventive actions related to the protection of human life and health in landslides.
