Improving Air Quality in Burgas Municipality through Public Transport Modernization

The "Improving Air Quality through Public Transport Modernization in Burgas Municipality" Project includes delivery and entry into service of 56 electric vehicles providing the needs of the public transport in the Municipality, related charging facilities and infrastructure, as well as the integration of the vehicles with the existing systems for electronic ticketing, automatic vehicle control, CCTV and real time passenger information. The project envisages the provision of the following transport vehicles: - 10 new 18 metre articulated electric buses; - 34 new 12 metre electric buses; - 12 new 9 metre electric buses; - charging stations and infrastructure; - additional equipment and integration with existing public transport management systems. The new electric buses will guarantee reduction of air pollutants PM10 and NOx, reduction of noise and vibration in the environment. One of the main results of the project is related to energy efficiency and energy savings. Innovative technologies prove the effectiveness of the public transport electric vehicles in terms of energy consumption. The new fleet will contribute to improving quality of service and attractiveness of public transport among citizens and visitors of Burgas Municipality. Operation of electric buses will contribute to noise reduction. Additional impact leads to reduction of private vehicles use, reduction of congestion and respectively improving quality of life.
