Implementation of activities for improvement of air quality in Sofia Municipality through the purchase and delivery of electric vehicles for road transport - electric buses and trolleybuses

The project includes two main deliveries: trolleybuses and electric buses: 1. Delivery of 30 new low-floor articulated trolleybuses that will replace depreciated vehicles. In order to ensure their normal operation, reconstruction and modernization of 3 rectifying stations is envisaged. The rectification stations (RS) are the main unit of the power supply system of the electric transport in Sofia. They convert the three-phase voltage supplied by the distribution company into a constant voltage required to power the trolleybuses. In this regard, the efficiency and soundness of the RS supplying the lines along which the newly purchased trolleybuses will be used is crucial for their normal operation. 2. Delivery of 30 new electric buses and 10 new charging stations. To ensure the normal operation of the new rolling stock, construction of new complete transformer posts is envisaged. The project envisages the construction of electric bus lines to replace existing bus routes. Electric buses will use state-of-the-art fast-charge technology based on ultracapacitors. For charging, 10 charging stations will be built, located at the start and end stations and at the service depots. For the provision of power to the charging stations from the contact network of Sofia Electric Transport EAD, it is necessary to build new transformer rectifiers at selected locations.
