Improvement of atmospheric air quality through the purchase and delivery of electric road transport vehicles - electric buses and trolleybuses for the Municipality of Ruse.

Through the implementation of this project proposal, electric vehicles will be purchased and delivered for the needs of the public transport of Ruse Municipality – 20 electric buses and 15 trolleybuses. Delivery and installation of 20 charging stations at a trolleybus depot, 4 charging stations for fast charging with pantographs, construction of 1 concrete compact transformer station will take place under the project. There will also be repair and reconstruction of the contact network at the intersection at Simova melnitsa, the route from Simova melnitsa to Central Railway Station, as well as the turnaround in front of Central Railway Station. The existing contact network will be upgraded by replacing the existing automatic control arrows with a new remote control model. The necessary infrastructure for the operation of the newly acquired vehicles will be provided through Automatic vehicle location system; Video surveillance system and Real-time passenger information system, as well as the integration of the new equipment systems into the existing systems for management and control of the public transport of Ruse Municipality. The decommissioning of 20 diesel buses and their replacement with new electric buses is expected to save 14.527 tonnes NOx and 0,78 tonnes FPM10 per year. The replacement of 15 trolleybuses manufactured 1982-1984 with 15 new trolleybuses will improve the energy efficiency of urban transport. In this way, the project will contribute to Specific objective “Reduction of atmospheric air pollution by reducing the amounts of FPM10/NOx” under Priority axis 5 of OPE 2014-2020 and will lead to improvement of the atmospheric air quality by reducing the levels of fine particulate matter (FPM10) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) to achieve the established atmospheric air standards.
