Renovation of Zapaden Park – representative part, Sofia

Zapaden Park is one of the largest parks in Sofia with citywide significance. It is surrounded by the following residential districts: Gevgeliyski, Zapaden Park, Zaharna fabrika, Sveta Troitsa, Ilinden, Razsadnika, Krasna polyana, Lyulin 10 (and the other 9 microregions). Significant transport arteries lead to it - the boulevards Slivnitsa and Tsaritsa Yoanna. The territory encompasses around 53 ha net area up to the bordering communications and around 60 ha including the communications and adjoining part of the contact territories. It has the following borders: • to the northeast - Slivnitsa Blvd. • to the southeast - the Sofia-Pernik railway line • southwest - Tsaritsa Yoanna Blvd. • northwest – Suhodolska River. The objective of the project is to restore the park through reconstruction activities and landscaping in its representative part while at the same time preserving its authentic look. This includes construction works for alley renovation, replacement of park furniture, construction of new playgrounds, reconstruction, replacement and construction of elements of the technical infrastructure, replacement of park lighting and installation of video monitoring, irrigation systems. Thus the site is divided into eleven sub-sites according to their character and looks: Alpineum and pond; Dry fountain at the main alley and its adjoining area; Main entrance and its adjoining area; Rosarium; Flower Exhibition; Green school; Children's Playground; Picnic area; Dog walk area; Dog playground. In addition to these the project envisages restoration and reconstruction of other park elements – the alley network along the two main axes and the secondary alleys; restoration of the vegetation in poor phytosanitary condition; removal or securing the unregulated entrances to the park along with others.
