Varna Integrated Urban Transport - 2nd phase

In the 2007-2013 Programming period,Municipality of Varna executed 2 projects related to the provision of public transport service-project "Varna Integrated Urban Transport",funded by the OP"Regional development"2007-2013 and the project "Applying of measures to improve the quality of life in the cities of Burgas,Varna,Stara Zagora and Pleven",funded under OP"Environment 2007-2013".In the framework of the project for an integrated urban transport,10 components were implemented.In order to upgrade these components and the selected alternative in the feasibility study within the framework of this project proposal are included 3 components that are interrelated: Component1:Expansion and reconstruction of the street arteries, related to optimization of mass urban public transport (MUPT);Component2:New vehicles for MUPT;Component3:Intelligent transport systems In the development of the project is an integrated territorial approach used.The system of interrelated actions,aims at sustainable improvement of the economic,social and environmental status of the municipality.The first two components are entirely related to the extension of the existing systems in the first phase of the project for public transportation.The signing of the contract for the “Public transport of passengers” by carrier "Gradski transport"EAD and the award of all service lines in the territory of the Municipality of Varna,requires extension of bus and coach park,as well as the replacement of one part of the vehicles,in order to improve the quality of the service provided.This work on replacement buses and trolley-buses started in the previous Programming period and will continue throughout the new one.To finish all actions and interventions within the project are also included rehabilitation activities of streets (encompassing and pedestrian underpasses, pedestrian traffic lights, accessibility, cycle paths, etc.),in which there is heavy traffic and lines of urban public transport.
