"Improving the quality of education through modernization of educational infrastructure in the city of Burgas stage I"

The project envisages implementation of a series of interrelated activities to provide attractive and accessible educational and sporting environment for children and adolescent citizens of the city of Burgas. This project will contribute to upgrade the results of the Municipality in implementation of policies for reconstruction, renovation and upgrade of educational and training institutions. Through funding by various EU financial instruments and by its own budget, Burgas Municipality was able to renovate 32 of its 34 kindergartens in the past few years. About 80 % of schools have also been repaired, and the goal is to complete the entire renovation cycle. The objects of intervention in this project proposal are located in the identified areas of influence of Master Plan of the city of Burgas. These are predominantly ZONES with social characteristics and ZONES OF PUBLIC FUNCTIONS of high social value, where the key issues are related to the need to integrate more intensively and exhibit public, cultural and administrative buildings and create new spaces with public functions. The scope of this project includes two sites, which are located outside the areas of influence. Their role is to enhance the functional connections of the city and surrounding area, which will contribute to balanced provision of quality education service to more residents of the city including in its suburban areas. The urban environment in the identified areas is characterized by being unconstructed, undeveloped or in poor condition. This encompasses the area with a predominantly social features, especially Meden Rudnik residential area which is the largest residential district in the city of Burgas. Typical of that area is low standard of education and a large number of pupils leaving school at an early age. As a result of the problems in these areas there have been identified sites with potential to provide attractive and affordable educational and sporting environment.
