Providing a balanced urban environment in the city center, Vazrajdane and Meden rudnik residential areas- phase I

This project proposal aims to improve the quality of urban living environment by building a balanced system of key public spaces for urban social and cultural life. The objects in the urban environment are selected and combined based on an integrated territorial approach for continuous improvement of the physical and functional characteristics of the elements of the environment. They use the existing potential and meet the needs identified in the socio-economic analysis in the Integrated plan for urban regeneration and development of Burgas. The sites are selected within the territorial scope of the priority areas for action set in the plan. They were chosen according to the growing needs of the area and the opportunities for funding offered by priority 1 of OPDR2014-2020. Planned activities include reconstruction of central pedestrian zone; pavement and re-asphalting of key Central city area, Vazrazhdane and Meden rudnik quarter; streets,accompanied by recreation areas shaping; differentiation of parking lots; energy efficient solutions for street lighting; landscaping. Inseparable part of the integrated approach towards improving the physical aspect of the urban environment is the reconstruction and renovation of functional spaces for recreation, sport and play, providing access to maximum number of residents in heavily built-up areas subject to intervention. The project is addressed to all residents and guests of Burgas. It offers integrated and holistic solution of issues related to modernization and reconstruction of the physical environment of significant public spaces in the city. The implementation of the project proposal will contribute to improving quality of life,living and working environment for residents and visitors of the city. The integrated approach towards improving the welfare of the community goes far beyond the boundaries of the physically improved infrastructure by turning public spaces in key locations for urban social and cultural life.
