The project proposal aims to establish a sustainable, safe and aesthetic urban environment, which would contribute to higher living standards and better security for the citizens. It would also be a precondition for a dynamic socio-economic development and higher level of investment. The implementation of the project includes an intervention in the following sites: • “Reconstruction and improvement of the physical environment of the Square area”; • “Improvement of the physical environment of the pedestrian zone on “Tsar Simeon Veliki” str. – from “Hadzhi Dimitar Asenov” str. To “Patriarch Evtimii” str.; • “Improvement of the physical environment of “Metodii Kusev” park (the Ayazmo) All sites that are included in the project are based in Zone of intervention II. Stara Zagora Municipality has invested a large amount of resources in Zone of intervention II and has fulfilled 53 sites in the first stage of “Green and accessible urban environment for the citizens of Stara Zagora” project - 2 streets, 2 parks and 49 inner-residential block areas. These sites, located in a close proximity and in a territorial unity, have been funded by OPRG 2007-2014. The sites, which are included in the intervention list of ZI II with public functions, are in direct spatial connection with the cycling lane from the “Modernization and development of sustainable public transport in Stara Zagora”–stage I project. The main goal of Stara Zagora Municipality is the provision of new possibilities for economic and social development and the attraction of new visitors and foreign investors through the establishment of unified system of pedestrian areas based on a common vision. It will take into account the cities characteristics by preserving and developing the positive aspect of the projects already completed. The fulfillment of the project activities will enlarge the synergetic effect of the overall implementation of the projects which improve the urban environment of Stara Zagora.
