Integrated urban transport of the city of Veliko Turnovo

With the present project proposal Veliko Tarnovo Municipality undertakes specific measures for improving the transport infrastructure, traffic management, the accessibility of the urban transport service, the city's functionality by reducing congestion in the central city areas, improving mobility, and last but not least limiting the negative impact of transport on the environment and on human health. The project proposes an integrated territorial approach, including a system of interconnected activities aimed at permanently improving the economic, social and environmental state of the territory. The project envisages the following integrated measures and groups of activities: 1. Equipping 22 of the busiest bus stops of the urban public transport with electronic information boards; control center with positioning system for public transport vehicles, incl. the supply of equipment and the corresponding application software as well as functional upgrade and integration with the existing ICT and infrastructure serving the paid parking spaces; 2. Introducing a new urban busline; 3. Delivery of 3 electric buses serving the newly established urban busline complying with the European emission standards; 4. Installing of 1 charging station for charging newly purchased electric vehicles; 5. Rehabilitation of the street network and the adjoining infrastructure to it, construction of a pedestrian overpass, reconstruction of 2 road junctions, improvement of the traffic of 4 road junctions by modernizing the traffic lights of some of busiest traffic intersections in the city; 6. Construction of two buffer parking lots near the key knots of the urban public transport outside the city centre, as well as a parking system and information boards for parking at five 24/7-secured parking lots being a complete solution for management and control of public parking lots.
