Integrated Urban Transport - Sliven

The main objective of the project is the replacement of all public transportation vehicles by purchasing 27 diesel buses. An integrated ticketing system will be installed for the convenience of riders and bus drivers. It will include: single-trip tickets; tickets for a period of time; and seasonal passes, which will be available for purchase at 11 points of sale. The validity of these tickets and passes will be verified by devices, installed in each bus. In order to provide accurate information about the bus arrival times, a system, accessible on the Internet, will be created to inform the passengers in real time. Maps with the bus routes of the public transportation system will be installed at all bus stops. Electronic boards will be installed at the busiest bus stop locations and inside the new buses, providing real-time information to riders. The route network will be optimized to increase the appeal of public transportation. Current plans call for a new network that will include 1 trolleybus and 9 regular bus lines. 16 new bus stops will be built, in line with the above-mentioned changes. All of the bus stops will provide wheelchair access and areas for disembarkation and embarkation of passengers. The proposed route network includes 8 termini, 4 of which are equipped with rest areas for drivers. To increase the share of trips made by bicycles, the project will also provide funds for the construction and demarcation of bike lanes, including the placement of road markings and street signs, the repair of sidewalks and street pavement, and the installation of bike racks. The last component of the project includes the repair of the maintenance station for vehicles and delivery of repair parts and service equipment. The realization of all measures above will improve the quality of transportation in the city and redirect traffic from cars to public transportation. Furthermore, greenhouse gas emissions, air pollution, and noise from vehicles will be reduced.
