Development of sustainable public transport of Gabrovo city

The project implementation will contribute to the development of sustainable urban transport in Gabrovo city by improvement investments of the transport infrastructure and systems with positive impact on the quality of passengers’ service. The project applies an integrated territorial approach, involving a system of joined actions, aimed at continuous improvement of the economic, social and environmental situation of the territory. It is a part of the implementation program of the Integrated plan for urban regeneration and development of Gabrovo 2020, named as Project X 7.1 "Mobile City". A reconstruction of the transport infrastructure and its facilities is envisaged by reorganization of the existing bus stop into a "pocket"; reconstruction of a road junction and the railway station square; repair and modernization of 2 pedestrian underpasses on key intersections as well as improvement of the traffic organization on 5 of the busiest intersections in Gabrovo city. 14 new buses including 12 m (+/- 1 m) length will be purchased in order to modernize the public transport, which will answer the European standards for engines emissions and use of renewable/alternative energy sources in the urban transport. 3 charging stations will be purchased and installed for loading of the new electric buses. The transport systems will be upgraded by implementing the required information and communication technologies in the public transport by delivery and installation of 104 electronic scoreboards on the bus stops in the city and 57 pcs. of on board equipment in the public transport vehicles. Thus, a real-time information of the vehicles arrival to the route stops will be visualized, and a management system for the public transport, including hardware and software, will be built.
