“Creation of an attractive urban environment in Kyustendil Municipality”

The project proposal Creation of an attractive urban environment in Kyustendil Municipality includes an object of intervention Kolushko dere – with a starting point Banshtitsa river and an end point Medieval Church St. George. This object falls within the range of the Integrated plan for urban regeneration and development of Kyustendil, specifically within Zone of influence II – Area with social characteristics and Zone of influence Area with public function. The main objective of the project proposal is to improve the physical and living environment and to revitalize priority urban areas in Kyustendil. In order to accomplish this objective, activities for extension, renovation and modernization of the city's green infrastructure are envisaged, combined with interventions for improvement of adjacent pedestrian zones and streets. As a result, the quality of the physical environment will be improved Kyustendil will be attractive to its residents as well as to visitors and business, while at the same time special attention will be paid to disadvantaged groups. The implementation of the current project proposal will contribute to overcoming the shortage of green spaces in the town of Kyustendil and will provide the local population with open and accessible spaces for sports and recreation. At the same time, the improvement of the existing green infrastructure through modern and innovative landscaping solutions will contribute to enhancing the quality of the living environment in Kyustendil. The combination of these activities will contribute to making Kyustendil an attractive center for local people as well as for tourists and businesses. The clean environment, giving equal access to the functions it performs, in combination with provision of better access to people's homes and development of alternative transport is a prerequisite for the successful and sustainable development of Kyustendil, one of the 36 cities, centers of agglomeration areas.
