Repair and reconstruction of the pedestrian zone in downtown (blvd. "Bulgaria") - I st stage, Dimitrovgrad.

The scope of the project proposal includes the central pedestrian zone in Dimitrovgrad, which covers the area between the main boulevards “G.S. Rakovski” and “D. Blagoevgrad”. It has a common area of 32 518 sq.m. Dimitrovgrad’s main pedestrian zone links the Railway Station and the Bus Station with the administrative center of the town – the City Hall of Dimitrovgrad. It represents an architecture ensemble which combines many ideas of the modernism from the first half of the XX century settled in the aesthetics of neoclassicism.The site is immovable culture heritage under art. 58 of the Culture Heritage Law and Order from 25.11.2010 issued by the Minister of Culture.The ensemble is organically linked at semantic,functional and aesthetic level with the other parts of the town. Its high value is determined by human-scaled areas and moderate architecture, fully comparable with the rest of the urban contexture. The pedestrian zone located in the city center is a natural urban dominant actively participating in the life of the town.The scope of the project proposal is to upgrade and to reconstruct all elements of the pedestrian zone namely:Complete preservation of the pedestrian pavements;Providing an accessible architectural environment for people with disabilities;Providing recreation zones and zones for public services; Re-examination and inclusion of the areas under the colonnades of the residential buildings to the area and directing the pedestrian flow to them; Re-examine the area around the amphitheater;Reconstruction and renovation of the existing fountain;Replacement of lighting fixtures and provision of energy saving lighting and decorative art lighting which highlights typical areas and details;Planting new trees, shrubs and flowers;Providing automatic drip irrigation system.Target groups,citizens and guests of the city and the municipality, incl. people in bumpy. status, children, young people and people of working age,mothers with children, pensioners.
