Quality improvement of the educational environment at TU Sofia for the leading professional priority fields 5.3 "Communication and computer systems" and 5.13 "General Engineering" through the complete renovation of Block 3 and Block 1

The project is aimed at realizing the goals and priorities of the Technical University of Sofia based on established educational traditions, the needs of the labor market and European integration processes for the development of "knowledge based economy" confirmed necessary by engineers with high quality knowledge, skills, and competences. The strategic goal of the university is improving the quality of teaching and research, to strengthen it as a leading center for engineering education and research in the region and ensure its competitiveness on a European level. In this process the educational infrastructure, which needs a qualitative improvement, plays a central role. The project is a key initiative for the complex renovation and modernization of the general educational environment of the leading professional disciplines 5.3 "Communication and computer systems" and 5.13 "General Engineering" (conducting the educational process in Block 3 and Block 1) by: 1. Introduction of high-tech training tools: computerized work spots with high-speed communication networks to access teaching materials and digital content, innovative multimedia devices and systems for presentation of technologies in real-time. 2. Renovation and refurbishing of classrooms, complete interior renovation of 9 classrooms and two lecture halls in Block 3 and 4 lecture halls in Block 1. 3. Ensuring high quality of the students space microclimate and reducing energy costs: implementation of energy saving measures in block 3 for achieving energy efficiency standards and conditioning the two largest lecture halls in block 3 and the 4 lecture halls in block 1* covering actual microclimate standards in buildings for education and science usage. *The building envelope of Block 1 was fully renovated on a previous project under OPRD 2007-2013 and with the herewith proposed further renovation of its 4 lecture it will achieve full renovation in accordance with the Guidelines for Applicants.
