Development of an innovative method for production of individually designed titanium implants for the surgical treatment of diseases of the cervical spine.

The mission of BIOPRINT Ltd. is the development of an innovative, avant-garde method for treatment of injuries, degenerative and oncological diseases of the cervical spine by personalized 3D-modeling of titanium spinal implants dedicated to replace the intervertebral discs or the vertebral bodies. The ambition of the company is to increase its innovation capacity by applying the knowledge and experience of highly-qualified experts in medicine, physics, engineering and ICT. The aim is through the experience of fundamental and applied research in the field of neurosurgery to introduce a modern, high-tech method for reconstructive surgery of the spine and thus solve important healthcare issues and to achieve improved quality of life for the patients. The project describes the idea of ​​developing an innovative method for designing and manufacturing customized implants for surgical treatment of the diseases of the cervical spine, meeting the specific, personalized needs of the individual patient. The final innovative product - titanium implant (cage) will be implemented as a result of applied research, testing, measurements and production through the purchase of the required specialized software and mobile digital X-ray system. The goal is these individualized implants to fit perfectly the needs and anatomy of the patient and thus to create better conditions for fusion, functional recovery and generally – to improve the outcome of the treatment. The innovation will find direct application in the field of modern neurosurgery and will obtain not only a treatment for the disease, but also preservation of the neurological functions and improvement of the quality of life of the patients. The success of this project will provide access to this type of high-tech treatment to a broad group of patients. The project will be implemented on the territory of the city of Berkovitsa – region Montana.
