The project ‘Implementation of New Technologies, Increase of the Production Capacity and Expansion of the Product Range of Prolet Ltd’ is part of an overall programme for modernisation of Prolet Ltd entitled Programme 2007. This is a large-scale programme aiming to turn the company into one of Europe’s top and state-of-the-art enterprises producing leather and fancy goods. In pursuance of that programme, more than BGN 5 million has been invested in Prolet Ltd in the 2007-2015 period. A new production facility has been built, some of the outdated machinery has been replaced by state-of-the-art equipment; in addition, the company has set up its own engineering design team, which has developed assembly lines and robotised units to replace the most labour-consuming processes at the enterprise. Based on three consecutive development projects (under three separate contracts), a unique ERP (enterprise management) system has been developed which is unparallelled in the world’s leather and fancy goods business. That system covers all functions, including warehousing, logistics, manufacturing, forwarding, accounting, commerce, technology and design, and overall quality management. This project targets the part of the programme involving: 1. Activities to improve the production processes, including boosting Prolet Ltd.’s output and expanding its production capacities in order to increase the company’s market share. 2. Activities to diversify the company’s product and service range through incorporating a new division to manufacture wallets and small fancy goods. 3. Activities to implement new technologies in order to improve the resource efficiency and efficacy of the production process by introducing a new technology for cutting leather and auxiliary materials through digital cutters. Thanks to this new technology, the cost of materials will be optimised and the waste generated will be reduced.
