Completion of the preparatory works required to start the construction of the Interconnection Bulgaria - Serbia

Bulgartransgaz EAD is the owner and licensed operator of the gas transmission network on the territory of Bulgaria which transports natural gas to distribution networks and industrial consumers in the country as well as to countries in the Balkan region; the company is also the licensed operator of Chiren underground gas storage facility. In line with the licenses issued by the National Energy and Water Regulatory Commission, investments in the development and maintenance of the networks to ensure the continuous and efficient transport of natural gas in the country is the company's obligation. The investments are in line with the annually updated Ten-Year Network development Plan that is approved by EWRC; the Interconnection Bulgaria-Serbia is part of the plan. In May 2018 the Energy Ministers of Bulgaria and Serbia signed a Joint Commitment on the construction of the interconnection and based on that and the consent of the European Commission Bulgartransgaz EAD was designated as project promoter and future operator of the interconnection on Bulgarian territory. By receiving the project from the Ministry of Energy, Bulgartransgaz EAD takes the obligation to complete the necessary preparatory works that are required to start the construction of the interconnection. The project proposal aims to complete the preparatory works and ensure the grant of the required permitting and other documents in accordance with the national legislation as well as to ensure the acquisition of rights over the affected lands by the gas pipeline as a prerequisite for the issuance of building permits. The following more important activities will be carried out to achieve this objective: Collection of input data, conduct of studies and analyses, completion of the rescue archaeological surveys, changes in the Detailed Spatial Development Plan – Parcelling Plan, development of investment design in Phase technical design, acquisition of rights in rem and establishment of easement.
