Legal Counselling and Interpretation Services to Asylum Seekers In Bulgaria

The aim of the project is to provide legal assistance and interpretation services to third-country nationals who have applied for international protection in Bulgaria within the meaning of Directive 2011/95 / EC but have not yet received a final decision. Information and awareness-raising services on the rights and responsibilities of third-country nationals (TCNs) will also be offered. The envisaged activities will contribute to the understanding of the process of applying for international protection in Bulgaria, will provide support for the preparation for interviews of persons seeking international protection and the follow-up to the court proceedings in case of refusal / approval of the application. This will reduce the tensions and anxiety of asylum seekers while waiting for the decision. Special attention will be paid to the provision of legal aid provided by trained interpreters in a form that is accessible and understandable to the beneficiaries. The provision of interpretation and legal services is expected to be beneficial not only in terms of procedural assistance but also with a view to informing asylum-seekers about the development of their case. The project will provide a set of interpreters to be used at the request of the State Agency for Refugees (SAR) and other partner organizations providing assistance to persons seeking international protection, by constantly building up the skills of interpreters and increasing their number in order to to minimize the risks of misunderstanding due to lack of suitable interpretation. Guiding principles for the implementation of the project will be to respect migrants' rights, to inform them of all stages of legal proceedings and to ensure their assistance in gathering the necessary documents to support their case.
