Strengthening the Capacity of National Institutions and NGOs In the Field of Asylum

The aim of the project is to contribute to improving the services to asylum seekers by supporting and strengthening the administrative capacity of national institutions and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) working with asylum seekers. Activities will build-on and contribute to enhancing the existing administrative capacity of national institutions and NGOs to provide services and support to asylum seekers. The project will focus specifically on interpreters, social workers and other relevant staff working with the State Agency for Refugees (SAR), the State Agency for Child Protection (SACP), the Agency for Social Assistance, municipalities, NGOs and international organizations, that provide services to asylum seekers. IOM Bulgaria will conduct 16 trainings related to administrative capacity; Working through consecutive interpretation; Working with vulnerable asylum seekers; Human rights protection; Gender-based violence; Conflict mediation; National and European legal framework in the field of asylum; Carrying out focus groups and information sessions with asylum seekers. Along with the 16 focused training sessions, IOM Bulgaria will organize 5 workshops and 5 field visits at the SAR Registration and Acceptance Centers (RAC) with the participation of representatives of national institutions and NGOs, experts from the Regional Office of IOM in Brussels and offices in other EU Member States, as well as asylum experts from other EU Member States, to exchange experience and good practice and to provide recommendations for improving the capacity of the national asylum system. IOM Bulgaria will engage with relevant stakeholders among national institutions and NGOs and will develop standard operating procedures to prevent and respond to cases of gender-based violence in RACs that will be disseminated to partner organizations. At least 300 interpreters, social workers and other relevant staff of national institutions and NGOs will improve their knowledge.
