The fight against document frauds and the use of identity of another person is a key task for EU law enforcement, as there is a steady upward trend in cases of misuse of identity and travel documents. Counterfeiting methods are getting better, counterfeiters are able to reproduce new documents more and more quickly (for example, the new Schengen visa sticker was forged only two months after its entry into force). The National Center for Combating Forged and Fake Documents (NCCFFD) is one of the main structures in Bulgaria working in the field of detection of forged documents. The implementation of the assigned tasks and the achievement of high quality of the presented expert opinions, corresponding to the level of the similar international and European centers, requires the use of the high-tech specialized equipment by the employees of the center. The project envisages the delivery of specialized equipment to perform the specific functions of NCCFFD, related to improving the quality of the prepared descriptions of original documents and established forgeries, the implementation of active exchange of information and contacts with all units in the Ministry of Interior, which perform activities related to the documents, and cooperation with the investigative structures in the country, which need to provide expert opinions.
