Information campaigns for increasing the awareness about radicalization consequences

On 30th December 2015 under Decision of Council of Ministers 1039/2015 a Strategy for Countering Radicalization and Terrorism and a Plan of its implementation were adopted with the precise focus on the prevention of violent radicalization of individuals or groups in society, countering the proliferation of terrorist and radical propaganda and terrorist recruitment as well as preventing and countering terrorism on and from the territory of Republic of Bulgaria. The Plan lays down that the SANS should be a leading institution regarding the activities aimed at drawing up a methodology for identification, monitoring and assessment of radicalization manifestations and risks, as well as main radicalization factors (Chapter ІІ, Activity 2.7 of the Plan) and development of a mechanism for coordination and information sharing between the central and local authorities and NGOs concerning radicalization and violent extremism matters ((Chapter ІІ, Activity 2.7 of the Plan) To a large extent countering significant social phenomena that result in terrorism, radicalization and violent extremism propaganda is contingent on the competency of the law-enforcement authorities and institutions engaged to identify and correctly qualify at an early stage all indications and acts that show possible negative consequences. The enhanced awareness of the public, authorities and non-governmental sector, contacted with vulnerable groups at firsthand will bring the system to increase its ability to timely react and respond to the challenges deriving from the radicalization, eventually leading to terrorist actions. The project foresees promoting knowledgeability about the forms and methods of radicalization occurrence as well as advising about its results.
