Strengthening the Police capacity in counteraction to the illegal waste trafficking

The current trends of dynamic development of economy and technologies are reflected in the field of crime, as well. In this regard the threat to environment is even more important. The present project is in line with the Bulgarian national priorities in the field and also address the activities adopted at EU level under the 2019 EMPACT Action Plan - priority "Environmental crime", and in particular the Illegal waste trafficking. The Republic of Bulgaria, presented by National Police General Directorate (GDNP) at the Ministry of Interior, confirms the commitment to participate in operational activities related to the countering of illegal waste trafficking. Target group of the present project are the officials from GDNP, Metropolitan Directorate of Interior and the sectors "Countering Economic Crime" at the Regional Directorates of Interior, investigating police officers, investigators, prosecutors, judges, Ministry of Environment and Waters, etc. Under the project are envisaged activities related to purchase of equipment for providing access to Internet-based information registers for ferrous and non-ferrous metals waste, dismantling of used motor vehicles, activities related to hazardous waste, etc. In view of the need to exchange experience and know-how at European level, the project includes a study visit to an appropriate EU Member State (such as the Italian Carabinieri Service). At the national level, trainings with the participation of Bulgarian and foreign lecturers will be organized to identify different types of fraught, to present new technical means/equipment (tracking devices, remote controlled drones, etc.) for investigating and using such in the investigation process, developing an algorithm/procedures for investigating this type of crime.
