Development of the National DNA database and its integration into the Police Systems

The aim of the implementation of the project proposal is to increase the volume of information exchange with the Member States of EU, to increase of the security of data exchange, as well as to include new EU Member States into the data exchange. It will greatly improve the capacity for remote access of the DNA Forensic Department at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) in Bourgas to the National DNA data base. This will also apply to the planned establishing of DNA departments at the MoI in Varna, Pleven and Plovdiv. The project activities incorporate the delivery of hardware equipment, upgrade of the existing software, which includes integration into the police systems, as well as delivery of consumables, needed for DNA profiling of 14 000 persons with criminal registration. The project will be carried out at the National Institute of Forensic Science - MoI. The delivered consumables, technical equipment and software will be used by experts from the DNA Forensic Departments of the National Institute of Forensic Science and the DNA department at the MoI in Bourgas.
