Implementation of energy conservation measures to establish a building with nearly zero energy consumption in "St. St. Cyril and Methodius "- Vidin

The project is aiming to transform "St. St. Cyril and Methodius” school from a conventional building to a highly efficient building, in which a significant part of the energy is supplied by RES. For this purpose, the implementation of 7 measures are designed, which will allow the building to significantly reduce heat loss through measures on the external enclosing structures. In addition, the replacement of the existing hot water boiler utilizing oil with a highly efficient geothermal installation, consisting of 2 water-to-water heat pump units with a total heating capacity of 360 kW, which will be connected to an external geothermal circuit will be realized. In addition, a PV installation for own needs, a battery energy storage system and a monitoring and management system are envisaged. This will allow over 90% of the energy consumed to be from RES. In this way, the pilot building will reach energy class A +, allowing the building to become a NZEB. The implementation of the project demonstrates and validates an innovative approach for the transformation of conventional buildings into highly efficient ones, which can be replicated by the Municipality and other public buildings. In addition, project management activities, financial audit, construction and author's supervision, as well as information and publicity are envisaged. The activities and the contribution of the EEA FM to its implementation will be promoted through publicity activities. The project envisages building cooperation between the Municipality of Vidin and the Energy Agency - Plovdiv and NORCE RESEARCH, in order to acquire specific know-how and exchange good practices in the field of geothermal energy and offshore wind, through mutual visits and specialized webinars.
