Project №3 "Implementing innovative measures to mitigate and adapt to climate change in municipalities in Bulgaria"

The objective of the project is to improve the capacity of local authorities to plan and identify creative and innovative urban planning solutions and to implement them to mitigate impacts and adapt to climate change. Based on a series of trainings and study visits to the donor country, the project will support local authorities to assess their strategic plans and programs as well as the already implemented climate actions, and facilitates them to make a new strategic step towards the implementation of the most advanced knowledge and experience in the field of climate action in urban planning and development. The planned actions contribute directly to the Outcome 4 of the program – Increased ability of local communities to reduce emissions and to adapt to the changing climate. The National Trust Ecofund is the project promoter. The donor country partner is the Norwegian association of regional and local authorities (KS). Eight Bulgarian municipalities will act as project partners – Burgas, Kardzhali, Plovdiv, Ruse, Sliven, Sofia, Stara Zagora, Varna. The role of NTEF will be to manage the whole project, to organize and provide expertise and facilitation to the review and assessment process in the partnering municipalities, as well as to provide the needed expertise for the identification and elaboration of the technical design of the innovative investment measures, the Norwegian partner will contribute at all stages of the project with the information regarding best practices and experiences in most recent innovative technologies for small scale infrastructure in cities. On their side, the municipalities – partners in the PDP will be responsible for the management and implementation of the pilot investment actions. These small-scale infrastructure measures will be specific and relevant only to the specific conditions of the specific settlement. The project duration is 46 months with a total budget of up to 2, 8 Million.
