DEVELOPMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF MEASURES FOR MITIGATION AND ADAPTATION TO CLIMATE CHANGE IN STRALDZHA MUNICIPALITY

The project proposal aims improving the competence of municipal employees in Municipality Straldzha, improving their skills and expertise on local level as well as identification, development and implementation of measures for mitigation and adaptation to climate change in the municipality. All set activities are directly or indirectly aimed at reducing or limiting emissions of greenhouse gases and enhance the sustainability of local community to climate change. The project implementation will help achievement of the main objectives of the EEA Financial Mechanism for improvement status of environment in ecosystems and reduce the effects of pollution and other human activities , through supporting the achievement the overall objectives of the EEA Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 and in particular the reduction of economic and social disparities in the countries of the European Economic Area and the strengthening of bilateral relations between the donor countries and Bulgaria. The implementation of the project activities will contribute to the practical implementation of the National Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change, for and implementation of the measures of the Third National Action Plan of Bulgaria on Climate Change for the period 2013-2020, and the measures set in the Municipal development plan for of the municipality of Straldzha for the period 2014-2020. The set innovative measures and technologies for supporting climate change mitigation and adaptation in the waste sector are in line with both already mentioned strategic documents and in synergy with the sectoral policy regulated in the Waste Framework Directive 2008/98 / EU, Circular Economy Package adopted in 2018, Waste Management Act, National Waste Management Plan in Bulgaria for the period 2014-2020, and Waste Management Program of the Municipality of Straldzha for the period 2014-2020.
