GoGreenLocal - ACTIVE LOCAL CLIMATE ADAPTATION AND MITIGATION POLICIES

The municipalities Pernik and Bobov Dol, specialised in the production of electricity and heat based on coal, together with St. Zagora region provide over 45% of the total energy mix of the country. They are most affected in transforming their economies to carbon neutral and ensuring just transition The project overall goal is to increase the capacity of the municipalities Pernik and Bobov Dol to develop and implement active policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt and mitigate climate change. Specific objectives and expected results: • Establishment of a mechanism for analysis, assessment and adaptation of the strategic documents at regional and local level for the implementation of active policies for reduction of CO2 emissions and adaptation to climate change • Mobilization and increase of the local administrative and economic potential for reduction of CO2 emissions and adaptation to climate change at local level • Promoting the implementation of policies at local level to reduce CO2 emissions and adapt to climate change through the implementation of pilot measures Stakeholders: • Municipal Administration employees • Socio-economic partners • The population • The general public and journalists Basic activities: • Analysis and updating of current strategic documents related to the expected negative effects of climate change, energy transition and reduction of CO2 emissions • Analysis of the potential for strengthening sustainable economic development with a focus on both municipalities • Preparation of two action plans to reduce CO2 emissions and adapt to climate change • Capacity building of municipal officials and socio-economic partners in the context of energy transformation, just transition and new financial instruments for decarbonisation • Preparation of efficiency analysis and prioritization of measures for significant reduction of CO2 emissions • Pilot implementation of measures to significantly reduce CO2 emissions
