“Strengthening the application of alternative measures to imprisonment”

The development of probation services, changes in the legal framework, the society and the socio-demographic profile of the offenders place in front of the the probation officers the challenge of continual improvement of skills. This implies updating systems and training concepts, evaluation of existing diagnostic tools and the effectiveness of individual and group programs to ensure quality in their implementation. The need for more effective measures to improve the supervision of offenders, in line with European practices, requires the need new solutions such as restorative justice and mediation to be explored, including in the pre-trial phase of criminal proceedings. Emphasis will be placed on improving interinstitutional cooperation in order to involve the wider public community in the integration process. The project aims to strengthen the implementation of probation measures by introducing of new alternatives to imprisonment, enhancing probation officers competencies and updating the risk assessment tool and interventions for offenders.
